Secret Life Revealed

Here’s an extract from the work of Elizabeth Schlechter , a student of ours who spoke at our Learners’ Forum last year –

"I always knew there was something wrong. For years I had struggled with reading, writing and general confusion unable to put things together very well. I am 45 years old and last year for the first time I was officially diagnosed as being severely dyslexic ….Armed with this knowledge of the diagnosis, I decided I must find out more about this disability."

Elizabeth has now completed a book which describes how her dyslexia has affected her life, from her early childhood to the present time.

Elizabeth has written ‘Secret Life Revealed’ with help from her tutor Tella. It’s a very good read. It helps non-dyslexics like me to understand what impact dyslexia has on a person’s life … their personal relationships, work, health and everyday activities. I’m sure anyone who is dyslexic will recognize many of the problems Elizabeth faced.

There are copies of her book in The Learning Shop, so please come in and have a look for yourself. The illustrations are great fun too!

Your Student’s Turn To Write

We’re looking for some stories about your student’s summer. …Was it full of sunshine, or one long shower?

Why not ask your student –
Have you done anything exciting this summer?
Have you had an interesting day out?
Are you lucky enough to have been away on holiday?
Have you a childhood memory of something you did in the Summer?
Maybe you don’t like Summer?

Whatever Summer means to your student, we want to hear about it! We are looking for short pieces of writing – no more than 150 words- that will tell us about their Summer.
Why not work along with your student and send their entry to The Learning Shop by Friday 10th of October. The best stories will receive a prize and will be published in the November issue of the newsletter…. So get writing!

The deadline for submitting material for our next newsletter is October 16th. Don’t miss your opportunity to get into print!!!!
