Hello there!
Please consider this newsletter to be your personal Christmas card, full of Season's Greetings and Best Wishes for the New Year from everyone at The Learning Shop. We'd like to thank you all for everything you've done for us this year, and we are looking forward to working with you again in 2005.
In our Letters to Santa each year, all The Learning Shop staff ever ask for is one present (honest!) and that is, success for our learners. Santa has delivered the goods! In this edition, you'll read of learners receiving national awards, recognition at work, the chance of employment. That's what we're all about, so well done everyone involved.
As you'll see as you read on, we've lots of interesting things in store for you. There will be another opportunity to take up Volunteer Tutor Training in February (please make sure you have your name down if you haven't got your certificate yet); Maggie and Julia are eager to share their expertise in using digital photography to encourage literacy skills in learners; with Eric and Wendy's help, we hope to pilot our glitzy new website in the next month or so; there's a range of tutor evenings in subjects not covered in the basic course.........And much more besides.
In mid January, the national Big Plus Campaign will run again, encouraging adults to contact us for help with their reading, writing and counting. We'll be manning the phones and charging around finding tutors to help us. If you know of any friends out there who need a helping hand, do encourage them in our direction. And, of course, if you've got other friends who would like to be tutors, guide them to us!
The Shop is closed from 24 December until 5 January. Have a lovely time over the holidays, but please, come back. We need you!
Linda
